Rebak Island Resort, Langkawi – A Tropical Retreat

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces makes a foray into South East Asia with a premium resort in Malaysia.

Taj Hotel Resorts & Palaces has unveiled the privately owned 390-acre Rebak Island Resort, one of the 99 isles that make up the legendary Langkawi archipelago.  Located a fifteen minute ferry ride from the mainland jetty, Rebak Island offers a private island sanctuary ideal for families and couples alike as well as the only fully equipped marina in Malaysia.

Taj Langkawi Lobby

The resort comprises 82 luxury appointed timbered rooms and villas clustered together around the island’s coastline and set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains, ancient lakes and forests, waterfalls and beaches, in an abundance of tropical flora.  The resort’s landscape has been designed by the internationally acclaimed tropical landscape designer, Made Wijaya to offer all rooms unrivalled views of the Senari Straits.

Design company, JPA Associates, Singapore has created the hotel’s elegant new lobby as well as redesigning the rooms, villas, restaurant, bar and many other facilities.  The newly appointed room interiors have a contemporary feel, featuring wooden floors furnished with ethnic artifacts, inspired by traditional Malay arts and crafts and retain the charm of a Malaysian dwelling.  The higher room categories feature private balconies and outdoor tropical showers.

Rebak Island Resort offers innumerable drinking and dining options.  During the day the sunken Pool Bar serves light snacks, drinks and liqueurs, with the contemporary Minum Minum bar, meaning ‘Let’s have a drink’ in Bahasa, offering excellent pre-dinner aperitifs.  The stylish SY69 lounge bar offers an ideal spot to enjoy views of the Marina and yachts, boasting a large range of international beverages and cocktails.

All-day poolside restaurant, Senari, has a local Malay feel with pendant lights inspired by traditional fishing baskets and timber flooring, and offers a variety of Malaysian, Indian and Continental fare.  Boardwalk serves regional curries and barbecued delicacies with an enchanting view of the Marina.  Private candle-lit dinners can be organised beside the boardwalk, overlooking the fishing boats or by the Senari Straits.  Culinary buffs can further indulge in Malaysian cuisine demonstrations that can be arranged by the hotel on special request.

Taj Langkawi Restaurant

Fringed by an azure blue sea, Rebak Island Resort offers many recreational opportunities.  The more adventurous can try their hand at deep sea fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, cave exploration, as well as parasailing and kayaking.  Guests can take Langkawi Island tours and explore the island’s mangroves escorted by a resident naturalist.

On land guests can play golf on the 9 hole mini golf course, beach volleyball, tennis or simply laze by the swimming pool.

The Safa Wangi Spa offers classical Langkawi massages and therapies including naturopathy facials, treatments, body scrubs and wraps, with selected treatments followed by a warm bath and a herbal scrub.
