Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers Lets Guests Pedal For A Free Meal

Do your clients always use the gym in the hotel you’re staying at to keep fit? The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Copenhagen is trying to offer more incentive to exercise, as the hotel has hooked up a few exercise bikes to a generator. Guests who are interested can pedal for about fifteen minutes, generating 10Wh of electricity, and earning themselves a $36 meal voucher. Just to keep in touch with the latest tech, these bikes also feature iPhones attached to the handlebars, displaying the amount of power being generated. Aside from the exercise bikes, the hotel has also installed 2,400 solar panels and uses low-energy lighting and a groundwater-based cooling and heating system, boosting its eco-credentials.

Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers becomes Denmark’s first Low Energy and CO2 Neutral Hotel

Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers will set new standards on how future demands for sustainable hotels and workplaces are met without compromising on quality and comfort. The building will meet the requirements for a Danish Low Energy Class II building and also the EU requirements for certified Green Buildings, as renewable energy sources provide all energy to the hotel.

Four stars and environmentally friendly luxury
What is the purpose of reusing towels and saving the shampoo bottles, if the hotel itself is an energy-squanderer?

“We believe that future hotel guests will require hotels to run their businesses and operations based on environmentally friendly principles, without compromising on modern comforts and luxury. We have therefore made the decision to build the most environmentally friendly hotel building in Denmark, whilst still offering a high level of comfort and luxury” explains the proud General Manager, Mr. Allan L. Agerholm.
